Pastels and color pencils?

Color pencils and Pastels on Bristol board

Well, I’ve  put acrylics and oils away this month, and have been focusing on more illustrative drawings.  As much as I love painting, its nice to take a break and get into more detailed work. I’ve been experimenting with a new media combination,  layering dry pastels with color pencils.  I have to say, I love the results so far!  The pastels seem to help the color pencils adhere to the paper.  This also solves a problem I run into a lot working with pencils, where certain overworked areas of paper become waxy with excessive layering.  The pastels give the paper a new surface, and allow for many more layers of pencil to be applied.  I have not decided how to fix the image, however, and am a little worried how the pastels will end up being preserved on the paper.  I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it!

Sketchuary 2011

February is Sketchuary!  The goal is to do one sketch a day and post a picture on Facebook to prove it. Progress pictures count, so here is what I’ve been working on.
